Tanzania T-bill auction, 24 July 2024: 364-day at 9.28%, up 87 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 July 2024, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 5.13% (down 294 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.28% (up 87 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 98.0bn against TZS 122.3bn on offer, 80% of the amount sought, and TZS 52.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.75% to 12.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.07%, so the government is paying 221 basis points more than twelve months ago.
