Tanzania T-bill auction, 27 March 2024: 364-day at 11.57%, down 51 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 27 March 2024, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.14% (down 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.57% (down 7 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.57% (down 51 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 375.0bn against TZS 83.9bn on offer, 447% of the amount sought, and TZS 187.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.74% to 12.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.56%, so the government is paying 500 basis points more than twelve months ago.
