Tanzania T-bill auction, 13 March 2024: 364-day at 12.07%, down 23 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 13 March 2024, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.19% (down 24 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.65% (down 25 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.07% (down 23 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 372.9bn against TZS 83.9bn on offer, 444% of the amount sought, and TZS 97.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.56% to 12.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.65%, so the government is paying 542 basis points more than twelve months ago.
