Tanzania T-bill auction, 6 December 2023: 364-day at 10.00%, up 29 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 December 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 364-day bill at 10.00% (up 29 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 50.7bn against TZS 72.7bn on offer, 70% of the amount sought, and TZS 50.7bn was accepted.
At 10.00%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 21 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.09%, so the government is paying 391 basis points more than twelve months ago.
