Tanzania T-bill auction, 22 November 2023: 364-day at 9.71%, up 43 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 22 November 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 8.90% (up 34 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.71% (up 43 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 90.4bn against TZS 122.6bn on offer, 74% of the amount sought, and TZS 90.4bn was accepted.
At 9.71%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 21 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.69%, so the government is paying 402 basis points more than twelve months ago.
