Tanzania T-bill auction, 20 December 2023: 364-day at 11.03%, up 103 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 20 December 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 9.10% (up 27 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.40% (up 50 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.03% (up 103 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 54.8bn against TZS 77.5bn on offer, 71% of the amount sought, and TZS 54.8bn was accepted.
At 11.03%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 21 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.33%, so the government is paying 470 basis points more than twelve months ago.
