Tanzania T-bill auction, 9 August 2023: 364-day at 6.93%, down 4 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 9 August 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.54% (down 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 6.73% (up 88 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.93% (down 4 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 141.6bn against TZS 162.5bn on offer, 87% of the amount sought, and TZS 139.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.26% to 7.22%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 4.45%, so the government is paying 248 basis points more than twelve months ago.
