Tanzania T-bill auction, 23 August 2023: 364-day at 7.13%, up 20 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 August 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.76% (up 22 basis points), the 182-day bill at 6.94% (up 21 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.13% (up 20 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 74.2bn against TZS 162.5bn on offer, 46% of the amount sought, and TZS 74.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.76% to 7.22%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 4.45%, so the government is paying 268 basis points more than twelve months ago.
