Tanzania T-bill auction, 19 August 2020: 364-day at 3.97%, down 3 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 August 2020, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 2.58% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 3.97% (down 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 16.9bn against TZS 87.5bn on offer, 19% of the amount sought, and TZS 16.4bn was accepted.
At 3.97%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 23 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.91%, so the government is paying 394 basis points less than twelve months ago.
