Tanzania T-bill auction, 5 August 2020: 364-day at 4.00%, down 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 August 2020, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.42% (down 8 basis points), the 182-day bill at 2.58% (down 40 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 4.00% (down 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 38.2bn against TZS 89.2bn on offer, 43% of the amount sought, and TZS 28.2bn was accepted.
At 4.00%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 23 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.16%, so the government is paying 417 basis points less than twelve months ago.
