Tanzania T-bill auction, 22 July 2020: 364-day at 4.06%, down 64 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 22 July 2020, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.50% (down 27 basis points), the 182-day bill at 2.98% (down 32 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 4.06% (down 64 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 112.9bn against TZS 89.2bn on offer, 127% of the amount sought, and TZS 72.5bn was accepted.
At 4.06%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 23 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.45%, so the government is paying 439 basis points less than twelve months ago.
