Tanzania T-bill auction, 19 February 2020: 364-day at 5.70%, down 14 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 February 2020, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.48% (down 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 4.33% (up 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 5.70% (down 14 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 142.6bn against TZS 106.2bn on offer, 134% of the amount sought, and TZS 69.1bn was accepted.
At 5.70%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.23%, so the government is paying 353 basis points less than twelve months ago.
