Tanzania T-bill auction, 27 November 2019: 364-day at 5.87%, down 27 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 27 November 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 4.55% (down 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 5.87% (down 27 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 168.5bn against TZS 104.5bn on offer, 161% of the amount sought, and TZS 90.5bn was accepted.
At 5.87%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.45%, so the government is paying 258 basis points less than twelve months ago.
