Tanzania T-bill auction, 24 July 2019: 364-day at 8.16%, down 28 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 July 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.34% (down 10 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.23% (down 3 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.16% (down 28 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 275.0bn against TZS 106.0bn on offer, 259% of the amount sought, and TZS 104.2bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 7.90% to 9.35%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.29%, so the government is paying 88 basis points more than twelve months ago.
