Tanzania T-bill auction, 10 July 2019: 364-day at 8.45%, down 60 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 10 July 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.44% (up 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.25% (up 6 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.45% (down 60 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 222.0bn against TZS 100.0bn on offer, 222% of the amount sought, and TZS 104.7bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 7.90% to 9.35%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.89%, so the government is paying 156 basis points more than twelve months ago.
