Tanzania T-bill auction, 12 December 2018: 364-day at 9.14%, up 40 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 December 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.50% (up 50 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.24% (up 2 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.14% (up 40 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 135.2bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 97% of the amount sought, and TZS 108.6bn was accepted.
At 9.14%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.29%, so the government is paying 15 basis points less than twelve months ago.
