Tanzania T-bill auction, 16 May 2018: 364-day at 4.80%, up 68 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 May 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 1.89% (down 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 2.67% (down 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 4.80% (up 68 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 99.7bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 59% of the amount sought, and TZS 83.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 11.96%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.40%, so the government is paying 760 basis points less than twelve months ago.
