Tanzania T-bill auction, 2 May 2018: 364-day at 4.12%, down 26 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 2 May 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 2.67% (down 29 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 4.12% (down 26 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 45.6bn against TZS 166.0bn on offer, 27% of the amount sought, and TZS 45.6bn was accepted.
At 4.12%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.56%, so the government is paying 944 basis points less than twelve months ago.
