Tanzania T-bill auction, 18 April 2018: 364-day at 4.38%, down 71 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 April 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 1.96% (down 19 basis points), the 182-day bill at 2.96% (down 20 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 4.38% (down 71 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 155.0bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 92% of the amount sought, and TZS 117.7bn was accepted.
At 4.38%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.46%, so the government is paying 1008 basis points less than twelve months ago.
