Tanzania T-bill auction, 7 March 2018: 364-day at 5.83%, down 41 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 7 March 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.78% (down 62 basis points), the 182-day bill at 3.46% (down 23 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 5.83% (down 41 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 263.3bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 157% of the amount sought, and TZS 168.0bn was accepted.
At 5.83%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.30%, so the government is paying 947 basis points less than twelve months ago.
