Tanzania T-bill auction, 21 March 2018: 364-day at 5.12%, down 71 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 March 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.25% (down 53 basis points), the 182-day bill at 3.23% (down 23 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 5.12% (down 71 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 224.5bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 134% of the amount sought, and TZS 160.0bn was accepted.
At 5.12%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.26%, so the government is paying 1014 basis points less than twelve months ago.
