Tanzania T-bill auction, 21 February 2018: 364-day at 6.25%, down 67 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 February 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.40% (down 9 basis points), the 182-day bill at 3.69% (down 33 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.25% (down 67 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 281.6bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 168% of the amount sought, and TZS 168.0bn was accepted.
At 6.25%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.75%, so the government is paying 950 basis points less than twelve months ago.
