Tanzania T-bill auction, 6 September 2017: 364-day at 11.62%, down 34 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 September 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.10% (up 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.16% (down 27 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.62% (down 34 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 458.3bn against TZS 168.0bn on offer, 273% of the amount sought, and TZS 211.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.49% to 16.33%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.86%, so the government is paying 424 basis points less than twelve months ago.
