Tanzania T-bill auction, 8 March 2017: 364-day at 15.26%, down 3 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 8 March 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.20% (up 19 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.96% (down 15 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.26% (down 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 331.0bn against TZS 138.5bn on offer, 239% of the amount sought, and TZS 203.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 17.32%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.96%, so the government is paying 369 basis points less than twelve months ago.
