Tanzania T-bill auction, 22 March 2017: 364-day at 15.00%, down 26 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 22 March 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 13.61% (down 35 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.00% (down 26 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 436.3bn against TZS 135.5bn on offer, 322% of the amount sought, and TZS 184.9bn was accepted.
At 15.00%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.34%, so the government is paying 334 basis points less than twelve months ago.
