Tanzania T-bill auction, 8 February 2017: 364-day at 15.75%, down 3 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 8 February 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.10% (down 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.41% (down 8 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.75% (down 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 397.9bn against TZS 138.0bn on offer, 288% of the amount sought, and TZS 254.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 18.96%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.80%, so the government is paying 306 basis points less than twelve months ago.
