Tanzania T-bill auction, 25 January 2017: 364-day at 15.77%, down 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 January 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.14% (unchanged), the 182-day bill at 14.49% (down 4 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.77% (down 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 386.1bn against TZS 138.5bn on offer, 279% of the amount sought, and TZS 334.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.81%, so the government is paying 304 basis points less than twelve months ago.
