Tanzania T-bill auction, 11 January 2017: 364-day at 15.78%, down 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 11 January 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 7.14% (up 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.53% (down 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 15.78% (down 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 369.9bn against TZS 136.5bn on offer, 271% of the amount sought, and TZS 273.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 15.07% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.66%, so the government is paying 288 basis points less than twelve months ago.
