Tanzania T-bill auction, 27 January 2016: 364-day at 18.80%, down 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 27 January 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.84% (down 36 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.67% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 18.80% (down 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 359.6bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 272% of the amount sought, and TZS 262.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.71% to 18.87%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.04%, so the government is paying 376 basis points more than twelve months ago.
