Tanzania T-bill auction, 13 January 2016: 364-day at 18.81%, up 15 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 13 January 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 17.67% (up 29 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.81% (up 15 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 201.6bn against TZS 125.0bn on offer, 161% of the amount sought, and TZS 201.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.71% to 18.87%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 16.59%, so the government is paying 223 basis points more than twelve months ago.
