Tanzania T-bill auction, 16 December 2015: 364-day at 18.65%, down 21 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 December 2015, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 9.29% (down 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.10% (up 13 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.65% (down 21 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 195.7bn against TZS 97.0bn on offer, 202% of the amount sought, and TZS 164.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.71% to 18.87%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.87%, so the government is paying 277 basis points more than twelve months ago.
