Tanzania T-bill auction, 25 February 2015: 364-day at 11.90%, down 159 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 February 2015, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.52% (down 282 basis points), the 182-day bill at 11.45% (down 198 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.90% (down 159 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 595.1bn against TZS 99.0bn on offer, 601% of the amount sought, and TZS 158.4bn was accepted.
At 11.90%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 25 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.90%, so the government is paying 200 basis points less than twelve months ago.
