Tanzania T-bill auction, 17 December 2014: 364-day at 16.59%, up 71 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 17 December 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 13.64% (up 89 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.48% (up 51 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.59% (up 71 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 166.7bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 126% of the amount sought, and TZS 155.9bn was accepted.
At 16.59%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.26%, so the government is paying 133 basis points more than twelve months ago.
