Tanzania T-bill auction, 16 July 2014: 364-day at 13.83%, up 20 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 July 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 12.57% (up 201 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.34% (down 23 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.83% (up 20 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 138.9bn against TZS 76.0bn on offer, 183% of the amount sought, and TZS 101.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.99% to 15.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.86%, so the government is paying 103 basis points less than twelve months ago.
