Tanzania T-bill auction, 26 March 2014: 364-day at 13.33%, down 13 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 26 March 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 12.17% (down 59 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.22% (down 4 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.33% (down 13 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 238.9bn against TZS 130.0bn on offer, 184% of the amount sought, and TZS 130.0bn was accepted.
At 13.33%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.67%, so the government is paying 34 basis points less than twelve months ago.
