Tanzania T-bill auction, 12 March 2014: 364-day at 13.46%, down 31 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 March 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 12.76% (down 50 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.26% (down 44 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.46% (down 31 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 287.4bn against TZS 130.0bn on offer, 221% of the amount sought, and TZS 130.0bn was accepted.
At 13.46%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.97%, so the government is paying 51 basis points less than twelve months ago.
