Tanzania T-bill auction, 12 February 2014: 364-day at 13.90%, down 51 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 February 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 13.67% (down 23 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.72% (down 64 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.90% (down 51 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 304.6bn against TZS 130.0bn on offer, 234% of the amount sought, and TZS 241.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 13.64% to 15.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.60%, so the government is paying 71 basis points less than twelve months ago.
