Tanzania T-bill auction, 29 January 2014: 364-day at 14.41%, down 85 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 29 January 2014, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 13.91% (up 17 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.36% (down 83 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 14.41% (down 85 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 301.1bn against TZS 130.0bn on offer, 232% of the amount sought, and TZS 107.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 13.64% to 15.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.46%, so the government is paying 5 basis points less than twelve months ago.
