Tanzania T-bill auction, 25 September 2013: 364-day at 15.96%, up 8 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 September 2013, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 13.84% (up 78 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.86% (up 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.96% (up 8 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 223.9bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 160% of the amount sought, and TZS 127.9bn was accepted.
At 15.96%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.11%, so the government is paying 284 basis points more than twelve months ago.
