Egypt T-bill auction, 1 September 2026: 364-day at 24.99%, up 4 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 September 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 24.13% (up 14 basis points), the 182-day bill at 25.46% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 24.99% (up 4 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 362.5bn against EGP 205.0bn on offer, 177% of the amount sought, and EGP 140.8bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 22.78% to 25.85%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 25.93%, so the government is paying 94 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 124,992 after 12 months: EGP 24,992 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,083 a month.

That is EGP 37 more than the same money would have earned at the previous auction.

For shorter money: EGP 12,731 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 6,032 on the 91-day bill (3 months).

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
