Egypt T-bill auction, 25 August 2026: 364-day at 24.95%, unchanged

At the Treasury bill auction dated 25 August 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 23.99% (down 20 basis points), the 182-day bill at 25.46% (down 14 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 24.95% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 365.5bn against EGP 150.0bn on offer, 244% of the amount sought, and EGP 164.9bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 22.78% to 25.90%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 26.08%, so the government is paying 112 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 124,955 after 12 months: EGP 24,955 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,080 a month.

That is EGP 5 more than the same money would have earned at the previous auction.

For shorter money: EGP 12,732 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 5,997 on the 91-day bill (3 months).

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
