Egypt T-bill auction, 23 June 2026: 364-day at 24.52%, down 7 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 June 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 23.69% (down 46 basis points), the 182-day bill at 24.67% (down 99 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 24.52% (down 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.

Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 330.3bn against EGP 110.0bn on offer, 300% of the amount sought, and EGP 175.5bn was accepted.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 22.78% to 26.19%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 25.22%, so the government is paying 70 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 124,517 after 12 months: EGP 24,517 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,043 a month.

That is EGP 71 less than the same money would have earned at the previous auction.

For shorter money: EGP 12,336 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 5,922 on the 91-day bill (3 months).

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
