Egypt T-bill auction, 6 January 2026: 364-day at 24.49%, down 24 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 January 2026, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 25.29% (down 16 basis points), the 182-day bill at 25.46% (down 11 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 24.49% (down 24 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 338.0bn against EGP 115.0bn on offer, 294% of the amount sought, and EGP 165.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 24.45% to 26.19%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 26.23%, so the government is paying 174 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 124,492 after 12 months: EGP 24,492 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,041 a month.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
