Egypt T-bill auction, 1 April 2025: 364-day at 24.96%, up 43 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 April 2025, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 28.02% (up 67 basis points), the 182-day bill at 26.64% (up 48 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 24.96% (up 43 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 196.1bn against EGP 105.0bn on offer, 187% of the amount sought, and EGP 33.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 24.53% to 26.25%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 28.25%, so the government is paying 329 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 124,960 after 12 months: EGP 24,960 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,080 a month.

For shorter money: EGP 13,321 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 7,004 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
