Egypt T-bill auction, 5 January 2021: 364-day at 12.95%, up 18 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 January 2021, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 12.72% (up 10 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.92% (up 19 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.95% (up 18 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 42.7bn against EGP 25.0bn on offer, 171% of the amount sought, and EGP 20.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.24% to 14.71%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.58%, so the government is paying 163 basis points less than twelve months ago.
