Egypt T-bill auction, 18 December 2018: 364-day at 19.98%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 December 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 19.78% (up 18 basis points), the 182-day bill at 19.98% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 19.98% (unchanged). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 42.5bn against EGP 28.3bn on offer, 150% of the amount sought, and EGP 31.8bn was accepted.
At 19.98%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.76%, so the government is paying 122 basis points more than twelve months ago.
