Egypt T-bill auction, 19 December 2017: 364-day at 18.06%, down 70 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 December 2017, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.92% (down 34 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.92% (down 33 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.06% (down 70 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 52.8bn against EGP 19.8bn on offer, 267% of the amount sought, and EGP 23.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 17.65% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.62%, so the government is paying 56 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
