Egypt T-bill auction, 26 December 2017: 364-day at 17.58%, down 48 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 26 December 2017, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.77% (down 15 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.74% (down 18 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.58% (down 48 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 36.6bn against EGP 19.8bn on offer, 185% of the amount sought, and EGP 21.0bn was accepted.
At 17.58%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.98%, so the government is paying 140 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
