Egypt T-bill auction, 31 October 2017: 364-day at 17.69%, down 16 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 31 October 2017, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.57% (down 25 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.70% (down 21 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.69% (down 16 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 65.4bn against EGP 19.8bn on offer, 331% of the amount sought, and EGP 23.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 17.61% to 21.99%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 16.50%, so the government is paying 119 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
