Egypt T-bill auction, 23 August 2016: 364-day at 15.96%, up 5 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 August 2016, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.04% (down 12 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.50% (up 10 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.96% (up 5 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 35.1bn against EGP 15.5bn on offer, 226% of the amount sought, and EGP 15.5bn was accepted.
At 15.96%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 22 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.94%, so the government is paying 403 basis points more than twelve months ago.
